RAWK the Inland Northwest, a nonprofit corporation located in Spokane, Washington, announces that it has organized the 2007 RAWK Final Four (sixth annual), a competition between 20 high school aged bands in the Spokane/Coeur d'Alene area. Various new elements have been added this year.

These 20 bands will meet in groups of 5 bands in 4 preliminary rounds, to be held on four consecutive Saturdays: January 13, January 20, January 27, and February 3, 2007. People's choice balloting will result in determining the winner of each round, which along with a "wild card" fifth band to be selected by the RAWK Board, will all meet in the RAWK Final Four "Finals" on Saturday, February 24, 2007. All shows will be held for the first time at The Service Station, 9315 N. Nevada, be all ages, start at 7 PM and be priced at $10 at the door. Tickets are available in advance from the 20 bands. Advance tickets are priced at $8.

RAWK is excited to have The Service Station as the new venue for this event, due to its size, high quality sound system, quality neighborhood environment, and being a beautiful facility. The Service Station can be checked out at www.theservicestation.org

The lineup for the 2007 RAWK Final Four is attached, with contact information for each band included in the attachment. Only 4 bands return from last year's competition, 2 of which have changed their name (AMS to A Moment Shattered, and All In Favor to The Nightfly). The other 2 returnees are BEAF and Cyrus Fell Down. One band (McConkey-Long) is composed of Final Four veteran players from Mylestone and The Electrostatics. BEAF was in the Finals last year, which was won by Vax Lavala, with BEAF finishing second.

There will be non-competing "headline" acoustic artists that will appear during the vote counting at the end of each preliminary round show. This is the first time that acoustic artists have been utilized for all preliminary rounds. They will be:

January 13 - Sean Saugen
January 20 - Shane Evans
January 27 - Patrick O'Neill
February 3 - Kristen Marlo

RAWK will pay the winner of each of the four preliminary rounds $100. The winner will also be offered a live interview on Thin Air Radio (92.3 FM, www.kyrs.org) during the "All Ages Show" (hosted by Dustin Carroll) on the Tuesday night following their round. The Grand Prize will be provided by Isaiah Vering of Delve Music, and consist of a weekend of free recording time in Seattle, with an honorarium toward travel expenses paid by RAWK. One other prize for the winning band will be a free photo shoot of the band offered by Rhea Beumer. We also hope to solicit corporate donations in order to provide consolation prizes to each of the bands in the Finals. Interested parties should contact RAWK through www.rawkonline.com

A weekend of recording is occurring this weekend at the Slaughterhouse Studio (organized by Bob Kinyon and engineered by Isaiah Vering of Delve Music), in order to produce a song from each band for electronic distribution. This recording is being conducted for all 20 bands, plus the first alternate (Ambassador Nate). Isaiah Vering of Seattle's Delve Music, says this is "an absolutely fantastic group of bands, the best examples of what Spokane has to offer."

A variety of companies have already committed to general support of the event. These include Delve Music, Downtown Honda, Hoffman's Music, Silhouette Lighting, and The Spokane Sidekick. RAWK is a partner in America's Promise, sponsored by the Chase Youth Commission.

We believe that one of the best outcomes of this competition will be significant opportunities for young bands to gain name recognition. Also, they will have a chance to perform in front of large crowds, which some of the bands may not previously have done. It will be good training for what they will face if they choose to compete in BOBFest in June. The experience gained in recording will also be of value to many.

RAWK the Inland Northwest is excited about continuing this venture, which we see as a major element in building a larger all-ages music scene in the Spokane area.
