We have developed a plan for the 2007 RAWK Fall Showcase, which will accommodate up to 19 new young bands in a one-day extravaganza on Saturday, October 20, 2007, at the Service Station, 9315 N. Nevada.
Each band will be provided a 15 minute set time, with 15 minute set changes. Although these are abbreviated set lengths, we think each band can select their best material to showcase. Many new bands may not have much more fully developed material. Each band will be reviewed and critiqued by RAWK Board members and staff.
The day will start between noon and 1:15 PM on October 20, and end at 10:00 PM. the starting time depends on whether additional bands sign up (see information below regarding signing up).
Each band will be provided with tickets to sell for $5 each - good for all day. IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO SELL ANY TICKETS TO PARTICIPATE, but doing so will help build a crowd to play for. Bands may keep one dollar for each ticket sold, and provide the rest of the ticket money to RAWK on the day of show. The Service Station is a beautiful, clean new coffee shop and venue (no bar) in the nice Northpoint area of Spokane. See www.theservicestation.org
This will be an opportunity for us to see what the new bands bring to the stage. It will help us fill the field for the 2008 RAWK Final Four.
The lineup for the 2007 RAWK Fall Showcase is still in draft form, and certain adjustments might be made. Here is the current configuration (which will be posted with updates on www.rawkonline.com):
12:15 available
12:45 available
1:15 Icarus On Fire
1:45 A Pyrrhic Victory
2:15 Below Thee Above
2:45 Billy Versus
3:15 Juicebox
3:45 The Showgun (Moses Lake)
4:15 Shooting Blanks
4:45 Electric Warriors
5:15 Shadoya Jones
5:30 dinner break, then 6:00 set up
6:15 Guilty Conscience
6:45 WaggyPlank
7:15 The Chasing
7:45 Rexdismantled (Missoula)
8:15 Hail The Gunfire
8:45 The Deadhorse Express
9:15 A Cryptic Ending
9:45 The Lot Lizards
We believe that one of the best outcomes of this event will be significant opportunities for young bands to gain name recognition. Also, they will have a chance to perform in front of a crowd, which some of the bands may not previously have done. It will be good training for what they will face if they are invited to compete in the RAWK Final Four this winter or BOBFest in June.
RAWK the Inland Northwest is excited about continuing this venture, which we see as a significant element in building a larger all-ages music scene in the Spokane area.
Please let us know if you are aware of any other high school aged bands currently in existence that would be interested in participating.
Please direct any questions to Dale Strom at 509-998-9767.
